# بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ 1
$ The events on the Day of Resurrection 56:1-6
56:1 When the Event (the resurrection) comes
# إِذَا وَقَعَتِ الوَاقِعَةُ 1

56:2 there is no denying its coming
# لَيْسَ لِوَقْعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ 2
56:3 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others).
# خَافِضَةٌ رَّافِعَةٌ 3
56:4 When the earth is shaken
# إِذَا رُجَّتِ الأَرْضُ رَجاًّ 4
56:5 and the mountains fragmented
# وَبُسَّتِ الجِبَالُ بَساًّ 5
56:6 becoming scattered dust,
# فَكَانَتْ هَبَاءً مُّنْبَثاًّ 6
|@ The three parties on the Day of Resurrection 56:7-10
56:7 you shall be divided into three parties,
# وَكُنتُمْ أَزْوَاجاً ثَلاثَةً 7
56:8 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right?
# فَأَصْحَابُ المَيْمَنَةِ مَا أَصْحَابُ المَيْمَنَةِ 8
56:9 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left?

56:10 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers
# وَالسَّابِقُونَ السَّابِقُونَ 10
|@The recompense of the Outstrippers 56:11-26
56:11 those are they brought near (to their Lord)
# أُوْلَئِكَ المُقَرَّبُونَ 11
56:12 in the Gardens of Delight,
# فِي جَنَّاتِ النَّعِيمِ 12
56:13 a host of the ancients

# ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ الأَوَّلِينَ 13
56:14 but only a few from the later generations.
# وَقَلِيلٌ مِّنَ الآخِرِينَ 14
56:15 on lavish couches
# عَلَى سُرُرٍ مَّوْضُونَةٍ 15
56:16 they shall recline, facing each other,
# مُتَّكِئِينَ عَلَيْهَا مُتَقَابِلِينَ 16
56:17 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths
# يَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلْدَانٌ مُّخَلَّدُونَ 17
56:18 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring
# بِأَكْوَابٍ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأْسٍ مِّن مَّعِينٍ 18
56:19 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate,
# لاَ يُصَدَّعُونَ عَنهَا وَ لاَ يُنْزِفُونَ 19
56:20 with fruits of their own choice
# وَفَاكِهَةٍ مِّمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ 20
56:21 and any flesh of fowl that they desire.
# وَلَحْمِ طَيْرٍ مِّمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ 21
56:22 And wide-eyed houris
# وَحُورٌ عِينٌ 22
56:23 like hidden pearls,
# كَأَمْثَالِ اللُّؤْلُؤِ المَكْنُونِ 23
56:24 a recompense for all that they did.
# جَزَاءً بِمَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ 24
56:25 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin,
# لاَ يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْواً وَلاَ تَأْثِيماً 25
56:26 but only the saying, ‘Peace, Peace!’
# إِلاَّ قِيلاً سَلاماً سَلاماً 26
|@ The recompense of the Companions of the Right 56:27-40
56:27 The Companions of the Right
# وَأَصْحَابُ اليَمِينِ مَا أَصْحَابُ اليَمِينِ 27
56:28 (will be) among thorn-less Lote trees.
# فِي سِدْرٍ مَّخْضُودٍ 28
56:29 Banana trees, piled
# وَطَلْحٍ مَّنضُودٍ 29
56:30 and continuous shade,
# وَظِلٍّ مَّمْدُودٍ 30
56:31 and flowing water
# وَمَاءٍ مَّسْكُوبٍ 31
56:32 and an abundance of fruits,
# وَفَاكِهَةٍ كَثِيرَةٍ 32
56:33 unfailing and not forbidden.
# لاَ مَقْطُوعَةٍ وَلاَ مَمْنُوعَةٍ 33
56:34 And couches raised up.
# وَفُرُشٍ مَّرْفُوعَةٍ 34
56:35 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women),
# إِنَّا أَنشَأْنَاهُنَّ إِنشَاءً 35
56:36 and made them virgins,
# فَجَعَلْنَاهُنَّ أَبْكَاراً 36
56:37 chaste, loving companions of the same age
# عُرُباً أَتْرَاباً 37
56:38 for the Companions of the Right
# لأَصْحَابِ اليَمِينِ 38
56:39 a multitude of the ancients,
# ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ الأَوَّلِينَ 39
56:40 and a multitude of the later people.
# وَثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ الآخِرِينَ 40
|@ The recompense of the Companions of the Left 56:41-56
56:41 As for the Companions of the Left
# وَأَصْحَابُ الشِّمَالِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الشِّمَالِ 41
56:42 (they shall live) amid burning winds and boiling water,
# فِي سَمُومٍ وَحَمِيمٍ 42
56:43 in the shadow of a smoking blaze,
# وَظِلٍّ مِّن يَحْمُومٍ 43
56:44 neither cool nor good.
# لاَ بَارِدٍ وَلاَ كَرِيمٍ 44
56:45 Before they lived at ease,
# إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ مُتْرَفِينَ 45
56:46 and persisted in the great sin
# وَكَانُوا يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى الحِنثِ العَظِيمِ 46
56:47 and constantly said, ‘What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life?
# وَكَانُوا يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَاباً وَعِظَاماً أَئِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ 47
56:48 What, and our fathers, the ancients?’
# أَوَ آبَاؤُنَا الأَوَّلُونَ 48
56:49 Say, ‘Those of ancient times and those of later times
# قُلْ إِنَّ الأَوَّلِينَ وَالآخِرِينَ 49
56:50 shall be gathered together to the appointed time on a known Day.’
# لَمَجْمُوعُونَ إِلَى مِيقَاتِ يَوْمٍ مَّعْلُومٍ 50
56:51 Then you went astray, you that belied,
# ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ أَيُّهَا الضَّالُّونَ المُكَذِّبُونَ 51
56:52 you shall eat (the fruit) of the Tree of Zakkum.
# لآكِلُونَ مِن شَجَرٍ مِّن زَقُّومٍ 52
56:53 You shall fill your bellies with it,
# فَمَالِئُونَ مِنْهَا البُطُونَ 53
56:54 and drink boiling water on top of that,
# فَشَارِبُونَ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ الحَمِيمِ 54
56:55 and you will drink as the lapping of thirsty camels.
# فَشَارِبُونَ شُرْبَ الهِيمِ 55
56:56 Such shall be your hospitality on the Day of Recompense.
# هَذَا نُزُلُهُمْ يَوْمَ الدِّينِ 56
|@ A time for self examination and contemplation 56:57-96
56:57 We created you, why will you not believe!
# نَحْنُ خَلَقْنَاكُمْ فَلَوْلاَ تُصَدِّقُونَ 57
56:58 Have you thought about what (sperm) you ejaculate?
# أَفَرَأَيْتُم مَّا تُمْنُونَ 58
56:59 Did you create it, or are We the Creator?
# أَأَنتُمْ تَخْلُقُونَهُ أَمْ نَحْنُ الخَالِقُونَ 59
56:60 It was We who decreed death among you. We will not be surpassed
# نَحْنُ قَدَّرْنَا بَيْنَكُمُ المَوْتَ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ 60
56:61 that We will change you and cause you to grow again in a way you do not know.
# عَلَى أَن نُّبَدِّلَ أَمْثَالَكُمْ وَنُنشِئَكُمْ فِي مَا لاَ تَعْلَمُونَ 61
56:62 You have surely known of the first creation. Why then, will you not remember!
# وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمُ النَّشْأَةَ الأُولَى فَلَوْلاَ تَذَكَّرُونَ 62
56:63 Ponder upon the soil you till,
# أَفَرَأَيْتُم مَّا تَحْرُثُونَ 63
56:64 is it you that sow it, or are We the Sower?
# أَأَنتُمْ تَزْرَعُونَهُ أَمْ نَحْنُ الزَّارِعُونَ 64
56:65 If We will, We would make it broken stubble and you would remain wondering,
# لَوْ نَشَاءُ لَجَعَلْنَاهُ حُطَاماً فَظَلْتُمْ تَفَكَّهُونَ 65
56:66 (Saying,) ‘We are laden with debts!
# إِنَّا لَمُغْرَمُونَ 66
56:67 Rather, we have been prevented!’
# بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ 67
56:68 Have you thought about the water you drink?
# أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ المَاءَ الَّذِي تَشْرَبُونَ 68
56:69 Is it you that send it down from the clouds or We?
# أَأَنتُمْ أَنزَلْتُمُوهُ مِنَ المُزْنِ أَمْ نَحْنُ المُنزِلُونَ 69
56:70 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks?
# لَوْ نَشَاءُ جَعَلْنَاهُ أُجَاجاً فَلَوْلاَ تَشْكُرُونَ 70
56:71 Have you thought about the fire you kindle?
# أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ النَّارَ الَتِي تُورُونَ 71
56:72 Is it you that originated its tree, or are We the Originator?
# أَأَنتُمْ أَنشَأْتُمْ شَجَرَتَهَا أَمْ نَحْنُ المُنشِئُونَ 72
56:73 We have made it a reminder, and a blessing to the traveler.
# نَحْنُ جَعَلْنَاهَا تَذْكِرَةً وَمَتَاعاً لِّلْمُقْوِينَ 73
56:74 Then, exalt the Name of your Lord, the Great.
# فَسَبِّحْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ العَظِيمِ 74
56:75 I swear by the fallings of the stars
# فَلاَ أُقْسِمُ بِمَوَاقِعِ النُّجُومِ 75
56:76 and that is a mighty oath, if you but knew
# وَإِنَّهُ لَقَسَمٌ لَّوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عَظِيمٌ 76
56:77 it is indeed a Glorious Koran,
# إِنَّهُ لَقُرْآنٌ كَرِيمٌ 77
56:78 in a Book protected (from tampering)
# فِي كِتَابٍ مَّكْنُونٍ 78
56:79 which none shall touch except the purified;
# لاَ يَمَسُّهُ إِلاَّ المُطَهَّرُونَ 79
56:80 a sending down from the Lord of all the Worlds.
# تَنزِيلٌ مِّن رَّبِّ العَالَمِينَ 80
56:81 What, do you hold this discourse in disdain,
# أَفَبِهَذَا الحَدِيثِ أَنتُم مُّدْهِنُونَ 81
56:82 do you make it your provision to belie it?
# وَتَجْعَلُونَ رِزْقَكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ تُكَذِّبُونَ 82
56:83 Why, then, when the soul leaps up to the throat of the dying
# فَلَوْلاَ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ الحُلْقُومَ 83
56:84 and you are watching at that time
# وَأَنْتُمْ حِينَئِذٍ تَنظُرُونَ 84
56:85 We are nearer to him than you, but you do not see
# وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنكُمْ وَلَكِن لاَّ تُبْصِرُونَ 85
56:86 why then, if you are not revived,
# فَلَوْلاَ إِنكُنتُمْ غَيْرَ مَدِينِينَ 86
56:87 do you not restore his soul, if you are truthful?
# تَرْجِعُونَهَا إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ 87
56:88 If he is among the near
# فَأَمَّا إِن كَانَ مِنَ المُقَرَّبِينَ 88
56:89 there shall be calmness and ease, a Garden of Delight.
# فَرَوْحٌ وَرَيْحَانٌ وَجَنَّةُ نَعِيمٍ 89
56:90 If he is a Companion of the Right
# وَأَمَّا إِن كَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ اليَمِينِ 90
56:91 (he will be greeted with), ‘Peace be upon you, Companion of the Right!’
# فَسَلامٌ لَّكَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ اليَمِينِ 91
56:92 But, if he is of those who belied, and went astray,
# وَأَمَّا إِن كَانَ مِنَ المُكَذِّبِينَ الضَّالِّينَ 92
56:93 there shall be a hospitality of boiling water,
# فَنُزُلٌ مِّنْ حَمِيمٍ 93
56:94 and a roasting in Hell.
# وَتَصْلِيَةُ جَحِيمٍ 94
56:95 Indeed, this is the certain truth.
# إِنَّ هَذَا لَهُوَ حَقُّ اليَقِينِ 95
56:96 So exalt the Name of your Lord, the Great.
# فَسَبِّحْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ العَظِيمِ 96
